High seas treaty

A treaty which was being debated for more than 2 decades has been finalized into a legally binding agreement between 200 countries. This treaty now covers more than half of the worlds surface i.e. international waters which have been lawless. Through these treaty countries will agree to protect the marine life in these waters International waters which cover 60% of Earth's surface will be protected and the impact of commercial activities in these regions will be better assessed.

An important statistic worth mentioning would be that these water bodies absorb 90% of the worlds excess heat making it a major player in our climate initiatives. Currently only 1% of the international waters had any form of protection. Leaving marine life wildly exposed to exploitation.
