$3bn is the amount provided additionally to the Sri Lankan government by the IMF. $333mn will be disbursed immediately while the rest will be distributed in tranches. The country is going through a major economic crisis with large amounts of the public debt being held by international and private lenders making the nation particularly vulnerable. China has a major sway in the country. This is the 17th bailout from the IMF to Sri Lanka since 2009. The country has a high debt to GDP ratio which makes securing additional funding difficult especially after the political crisis which lead to the president fleeing the country.
